Topic: Ronde van Vlaanderen

Thomas did best out of the second round of the World Cup, the 88th Ronde van Vlaanderen (Sunday, 4th April), with Erik Dekker 5th, Rolf Aldag 7th and George Hincapie 10th all scoring for his Tiger Team. Lisa's Ready Steady Riders doubled their score for the season to date with a single point earned by Jaun Antonio Flecha in 12th.

Oscar Freire Gomez was the best placed of Sophia's Sureshots down in 23rd while Steve couldn't number a single Nightowler among the 125 finishers.

Topic: Vuelta al Pais Vasco, stage 2

The first result of note for our teams in the 44th Vuelta al Pais Vasco came on stage 2 (Tuesday, 6th April) when Beat Zberg took the stage win for Sophia's Sureshots. Lisa had a Ready Steady Rider in 8th place in the shape of Tyler Hamilton. Down in 42nd Ivan Basso came home for Steve's Nightowlers and the first Tiger Team rider home for Thomas was Alex Zülle who was 107th today.

Topic: Gent-Wevelgem

Wednesday, 7th April saw the 66th Gent-Wevelgem classic. 208km from the start, a group of 25 riders contested the finale. Sophia's Sureshots Magnus Backstedt (2nd) and Jimmy Casper (5th) sandwiched Jaan Kirsipuu (3rd) and George Hincapie (4th) of Thomas's Tiger Team. Juan Antonio Flecha was there for Lisa's Ready Steady Riders in 7th but there were no Nightowlers in the break. Best finisher for Steve was Mark Scanlon, four and a half minutes down in 33rd place,

Topic: Vuelta al Pais Vasca, stage 5b & overall

Top two on the final stage, an 8.5km time trial, were Bobby Julich of Sophia's Sureshots (1st) and Tyler Hamilton of Lisa's Ready Steady Riders. Steve's Nightowlers claimed 15th place with Ivan Basso but there were none of Thomas's Tiger Team left in the race at the end.

Overall, Julich claimed fourth for Sophia and Hamilton snuck in at 14th for Lisa. At 17th, Basso was just outside the points for Steve.

Topic: Paris-Roubaix

Magnus Backstedt followed up his second place in Wednesday's Gent-Wevelgem by going one better on Sunday (11th April) in the 102nd Paris-Roubaix. Run over 261km, the race ended with Sureshot Backstedt winning a four-up sprint in the Roubaix velodrome to give Sophia her second World Cup win of the season.

George Hincapie finished in the third group to take 8th for Thomas's Tiger Team, just ahead of Sureshot Romans Vainstiens in 11th. Just one place out of the points, Lisa's Ready Steady Rider Juan Antonio Flecha was 13th but none of Steve's Nightowlers numbered among the 93 finishers.

Topic: Scheldeprijs Vlaanderen

Robbie McEwan (Lisa's Ready Steady Riders) took second place in a close finish to the 92nd Grote Scheldeprijs Vlaanderen, held over 200 km on Wednesday, 14th April.

Out of the scoring, first home for Thomas's Tiger Team was Jaan Kirsipuu in 17th, Mark Scanlon (Steve's Nightowlers) was 36th and, down in 103rd place, Ludo Dierckxsens was the first of Sophia's Sureshots to finish.

Topic: Amstel Gold Race

In his home World Cup race, Erik Dekker was 7th for Thomas's Tiger Team at the end of the 251 km of the 39th Amstel Gold Race on Sunday, 18th April. For Sophia's Sureshots, Oscar Camenzind squeezed into the scoring at 11th.

Erik Zabel (Steve's Nightowlers) was just a little off the pace in 16th but Lisa's Ready Steady Riders were unrepresented among the 101 finishers.

Topic: Flèche Wallone

The 68th Flèche Wallone, held on Wednesday, 21st April, saw Andreas Klöden finishing 6th for Sophia's Sureshots at the end of the race's 199.5 km.

Nicki Sorensen (Thomas's Tiger Team) was just 4s behind, back in 15th place. Down in 30th and 31st positions respectively, Ivan Basso (Steve's Nightowlers) and Tyler Hamilton (Lisa's Ready Steady Riders) were still less than a minute down on the winner.

Topic: Liège-Bastogne-Liège

Period Two closes with 'La Doyenne', the oldest classic on the calendar: Liège-Bastogne-Liége. Raced over 258.5 km on Sunday, 25th April, this year's race saw Davide Rebellin complete a unique trio of wins in the final week of the Spring classics. Familiar names were to the fore for our teams too: Erik Dekker took 5th for Thomas and Ivan Basso (Steve's Nightowlers) was 8th, just one place ahead of Lisa's Tyler Hamilton.

For Sophia, the first Sureshot home was Oscar Freire Gomez, just out of the points in 14th.
