Christopher Hampton, 1996 (95 mins, Cert. 12)
In Victorian London, a city of spies, one woman is about to be caught
in a web of conspiracy and only one man has the power to save her.
(Playhouse publicity)
A highly atmospheric foray into the treacherous world of Foreign
anarchists in Victorian London. Bob Hoskins, Gerard Depardieu, Jim
Broadbent, and Robin Williams (credited under another name) provide
mesmeric performances that heighten the sense of almost feverish
tension and uncertainty emphasised by the evocative photography and
underscored by Philip Glass's music. Superbly haunting.
