Al Pacino, 1996 (108 mins, Cert. 12)
In taking Shakespeare's Richard III and opening up its layers and
complexities, Al Pacino has produced an extraordinary film. Neither documentary
nor drama, his unique work reveals the pleasures of Shakespeare's text
interlaced with warm anecdotes and funny explanations from some of the greatest
Shakespearean actors. Pacino himself appears alongside Kenneth Brannagh, Sir
John Gielgud, Winona Ryder, Alec Baldwin, Kevin Kline and Vanessa Redgrave in
this highly entertaining, enlightening piece of film making.
